A Dahlia Beauty Show
We are looking for entries. Bring the best dahlia stem you grew this season, put it in a glass bottle, and let the neighbours admire it. Five dollars per stem, and you may enter as many as you like.
Date, time and place
One Saturday, start to finish.
Hosted here at Milk House Roastery on Shepard Settlement Farm, in collaboration with SHF1848 School House Farms.
There will be some very cool trophies.
Who can enter
Anyone and all.
Children, adults, novice gardeners, professional gardeners, flower enthusiasts, the curious who want to try their hand at growing, and anyone truly interested in dahlias.
This is a light hearted festival to bring fellow gardeners and curious neighbours together. It is our hope to have our old barn bursting with colourful blooms and to create some good old fashioned fun.
What to bring
Your best stem, in a glass bottle.
One stem per entry, standing in a glass bottle. Enter as many as you like at five dollars per stem. Classes are judged separately, so a pompon is never up against a dinnerplate decorative.
A few rules
To honour the work, and keep it open to everyone.
Please take note of a few rules, so the growers who put the season in are honoured and anyone who wants to join still can.
The dahlia must be homegrown, or locally grown to you
If you do not grow dahlias yourself, but your neighbour, grandmother, sister or friend does, feel free to enter their stems. This event is ultimately about participation and inclusion.
One stem, one bottle
Bring each entry in a glass bottle. The goal is a barn full of beautiful blooms in glass bottles, with conversation surrounding the joys and beauty of dahlias in our lives.
Not entering?
Enjoy a coffee and peruse the blooms.
You do not need a stem to come. We will serve baked goods and coffee, and there will be a curated shopping experience while you admire the flowers.
Come for an hour, stay for the afternoon. The show runs 10 to 3.
Saturday 19 September
Bring your best stem.
Drop off between 9 and 10 in the morning. Judging runs 11 to 1. Awards, and some very cool trophies, at the end of the show.
